It’s been a year since Marcelo took a leap of faith and left London to join his wife on her new assignment in Washington DC. Although he had been to the United States before for work projects, he had never lived there and was excited at the prospect of living in a new country. Marcelo has always been interested in international cultures, having grown up in Brazil and more recently working in the UK for eight years. The thought of new surroundings really appealed to him and satisfied his desire to learn more about living and working abroad.
It was a perfect opportunity, combining all the elements I hoped for, a position in finance with a focus on Latin and South America, linking my skills, background, heritage, and language with a growing international company.
Within a month of his arrival to DC, he secured a position which he deems the perfect match, and we couldn’t agree more. We were looking for a Director of Finance who would support the Latin America and South America region. We wanted someone with global experience, who understood and appreciated the nuances of different cultures and would work with those differences, not against them; someone who had strong experience, enjoyed traveling, and could speak Portuguese and Spanish.
Marcelo spent over ten years with one of the Big Four and has brought a wealth of experience and talent to our operations. He has worked hard to establish relationships with the team members in Mexico and Brazil and spends about a third of his time traveling, working shoulder-to-shoulder with them. He is well respected and is sought after for advice and guidance.
It’s been a busy year for Marcelo – an international move, a new position, a new hometown, and now, a new baby. He admits that it’s a lot for one year, but that everything came together so easily, like it was meant to be. We couldn’t agree more.
